Sayyida Zaynab bint Khuzayma
Mother of the believers Zaynab bint Khuzayma
(may Allah be pleased with her)
Father: Halaliya bin Harith
Mother: Hina bint Awf
Tribe: Aamir bin Sasaa
Zaynab bint Khuzayma (may Allah be pleased with them) was born in the year 595.[i]
As for his marriage to Zaynab bint Khuzayma and Umm Salmah (may Allah be pleased with them) they were marriages to the two wives of his companions who had been martyred on the battlefield. Zaynab was the wife of ‘Abdullah bin Jahash who was martyred on the day of Uhud, she was not of marked beauty, but she was known for her good nature and kindness to the extent that she became nicknamed as the ‘mother of the needy.’ She had passed her youth, but the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) married her in the third year of the Hijra, after the battle of Uhud and after the martyrdom of her husband. She stayed with him for only two or three months until she died. Which meant after Khadija, she was the only wife who died before the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was 55 and Zaynab bin Khuzaymah (may Allah be pleased with her) was 30.[ii]
Zaynab, (Umm al-Masakin-Mother of the poor and helpless) daughter of Khuzayma ibn Al-Harith, belonged to the Hawazin clan. Her husband gave the supreme sacrifice to the cause of Islam and was martyred in the Battle. To rescue her from widowhood, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) took her as his wife. She lived till the age of 30. It was after her death the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) married Umme Salmah (may Allah be pleased with her).
She passed away in Rabiul-Aakhir 4 AH and was buried in Jannatul-Baqi in Madinah.[iii]
