Hadith Ahle Bayt
1 Hold on for Salvation
1. Imam Tirmidhi rates this Hadith as Hasan and narrates from Sayyidina Jabir that the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “O people! I have left with you those things that if you hold fast to them you will never go astray. They are the Book of Allah (Al-Quran) and my Family.
2. Imam Tabrani narrates from Sayyidina Al-Muttalib bin ‘Abdullah bin Hantab who said that his father heard the the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) say in a Khutba delivered in Jah’fa: “Am I not dearer to you than your lives?” We replied, “Most certainly.” He then said, “Tomorrow on the Day of Judgment I will question you about two things that I left behind with you and what was your relation with them. One will be about the Quran and the other about my Family (Ahl lul Bayt)
3. Imam Baroodi narrates on the authority of Sayyidina Abu-Saeed al-Khudri that the Glorious Prophet of Islam said: “Verily, I am to leave behind those things for you that as long as you hold fast on to them, you will not go astray. (Firstly) The Book of Allah (Al-Quran) whose one end is in the Divine Hands of Allah and the other end is in your hands. And secondly, my Family and these will always remain together until they meet me at the Fountain of Kauthar (on the Day of Judgement).2
4. Imam Ahmad ibn Hambal and Imam Tabrani both narrate from Sayyidina Zaid ibn Thabit that the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “Verily, I am to leave behind with you two things. (Firstly) The Book of Allah (Al-Quran). The Book of Allah is a rope which hangs between the sky and earth, (and secondly) my Family and these will always remain together until they meet me at the Fountain of Kauthar (on the Day of Judgment).3
5. Imam Bazar narrates on the authority of Sayyidina Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) stated: The Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “I am to leave behind with you two things. Hold fast to them and you never go astray. One is the book of Allah and the other is my progeny. These two will never part until they finally meet me at the Fountain of Kauthar.”

Imam Bazar narrates on the authority of Sayyiduna Ali al-Murtuda that the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) stated: The Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “Verily I am to depart from you and verily I am leaving behind two things with you. The one is the book of Allah and the other is my Ahle-Bayt. Verily, hold fast to both and you will never go astray.”5
7. Imam Tirmidi has rated this Hadith as Hasan with authority and Imam Hakim narrates from Sayyidina Zaid ibn Arqam that the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “Verily I am to leave behind those things for you that as long as you hold fast on to them, you will not go astray. (Firstly) The Book of Allah (Al-Quran) and (Secondly) my Family and these will always remain together until they meet me at the Fountain of Kauthar (on the Day of Judgement). Then after me, observe what relation you have with them.6
8. Imam Abdu bin Hameed narrates in his Musnad from Sayyidina Zaid ibn Thabit that the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “Verily, I am to leave behind those things for you that as long as you hold fast on to them, you will not go astray. (Firstly) The Book of Allah (Al-Quran) and (Secondly) my Family and these will always remain together until they meet me at the Fountain of Kauthar (on the Day of Judgement).7

Imam Ahmad and Imam Abu-Yahla narrates from Sayyidina Abu-Saeed Al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “Undoubtedly, I will shortly be called (towards Allah). Therefore, I will depart from you, and verily, I am to leave two very great and excellent things behind (with you). One is the Book of Allah and the other is my Ahle-Bayt (Wives and Children). And the most Gracious and All-Knowing Allah has informed me that these two things will always remain together until they meet me at the Fountain of Kauthar (on the day of Judgment). Then after me, observe what relation you have with them.8 5 Refer: a) Kashful-Astâr lil Haytami, Vol. 3, pg 221. It is also along with this Hadith that on the Day of Hashr the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) will look for his companions so frantically as if someone looks for a lost thing and cannot find it. b) In Majmuah al-Zawâid, Vol. 9, pg. 163 the similar narration is found. 6 a) Tirmidi, Vol. 5, pg. 622 but in Tirmidi a few more words are added i.e. “that the Kitâb of Allah is greater than my Family. Imam Hakim has commented here that this Hadith is correct according to Sheikhain (Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim) but they did not narrate it in their Books. Ark
Imam Bazar narrates on the authority of Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Zubair that the Messenger of Allah stated: My Ahlul Bayt amongst is like the Ark of Sayyidina Nabi Nuh for his nation. Whoever climbed on to it reached safety and whosoever ignored it, perished similar to the humiliation of the Bani Isra’eel.
Imam Bazar narrates on the authority of Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Abbas that the Messenger of Allah stated: My Ahlul Bayt is like the Ark of Sayyidina Nabi Nuh. Whoever climbed on to it reached safety and whosoever ignored it, perished.
Imam Tabrani narrates on the authority of Sayyidina Abu-Zar Ghaffari that he heard the Messenger of Allah say: My Ahlul Bayt amongst is like the Ark of Sayyidina Nabi Nuh for his nation. Whoever climbed on to it reached 12(security) given to Bani Isra’eel. 11perished similar to the Hittatunsafety and whosoever ignored it, Imam Tabrani in his Awsat narrates on the authority of Sayyidina Abu-Saeed al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah said: Verily, my Ahlul Bayt is like the Ark of Sayyidina Nabi Nuh. Whoever climbed on to it, reached safety and whosoever ignored it, perished. And verily my Ahlul Bayt amongst you is similar to the Hittatun give to Bani Isra’eel, meaning that whoever says Hittatun and climb on to it will get salvation.
Favour

The best amongst the Arabs are the Quraish and best amongst the Quraish is (my family) Bani Hashim.17 Warnings Imam Day’lami narrates from Sayyidina Abu-Saeed al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah said: Allah will severely punish that person who oppresses me by hurting my family members.18 Imam Tirmidi, Imam Hakim and Imam Bay’haqi in Shobul-Imam all narrate on the authority of Sayyida Aisha that The Messenger of Allah said: There are six persons whom Allah has cursed and the Duas of all Prophets are accepted by Allah. The six persons are: 1) One who distorts or tampers with the words of Allah (Al-Qurân), 2) One who rejects and falsifies the Taqdeer of Allah, 3) One who forcefully appoints oneself as leader of my Ummah and by the power of his rule, appoint those as office-bearers whom Allah has condemned as wretched and shameless and disrespect those who Allah gave respect, 4) One who desecrates the Haram of Allah , 5) One who disrespects my Ahle-Baith and does immoral things with them that which Allah has made Haram for them, and 6) One who abandons my Sunnah.19 Imam Daylami in Afrad and Imam Khateeb Baghdadi in Muttafiq narrate on the authority of Sayyidina Ali al-Murtuda that the Messenger of Allah said: There are six persons whom Allah has cursed and the Duas of all Prophets are accepted by Allah. They are: 1) To openly disrespect Islam, 2) To disrespect me, and 3) To disrespect my family (Muslims).21 Imam Muslim, Imam Tirmidi and Imam Nisa’ee all narrate from Sayyidina Zaid ibn Arqam that the Messenger of Allah said: I remind you of the fear of Allah regarding my Ahlul-Bayt.22 Imam Bukhari narrates on the authority of Sayyidina Abu-Bakr As-Siddique that the Messenger of Allah states: Take special precautions with the Household of Muhammad (May Allah bless him and grant him peace).23 Imam Tabrani and Imam Hakim on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn Abbas narrate that the Messenger of Allah states: O children of Abdul-Muttalib! I have asked three Duas for you from Allah. Firstly, to keep your hearts steadfast on Islam. Secondly, to grant knowledge to those who are ignorant so that they may guide the misguided to path of Deen and thirdly, to make you kind and generous amongst yourselves. So if a person stand between Rukn and Maqam at the Holy Kaba and performs Salah and keep fasts and then dies in a state that he bears malice for the Family of Sayyidina Muhammad (May Allah bless him and grant him peace), then he has entered the Fire of Hell. 24 20 Refer: a) Imâm Daylamiت in Musnadul-Firdous, Vol. 2, pg. 332. Imam Ibn-Adi records in his Al-Ikleel on the authority of Sayyidina Aba-Saeed al-Khudri that said: Whoso has malice for us Ahlul-Bayt, is a Munafiq (Hypocrite)26. Imam Ibn-Habban in his Sahih and Imam Hakim in Mustadrak narrate on the authority of Sayyidina Abu-Saeed Al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah said: I swear an oath on Him Who controls my life that whosoever has malice for us Ahlul-Bayt, Allah will send him to the fire of Hell27. Imam Tabrani narrates from Sayyidina Imam Hasan bin Ali who once said to Moawiya bin Khadeej: Oh, Moawiya bin Khadeej! Protect yourself from having hatred for us because verily the Messenger of Allah stated, ‘Anyone who has hatred and jealousy for us, on the Day of Judgment he will be chased away with a whip of fire from the sacred Fountain of Kauthar.’28 Imam Ibn Adi and Imam Bay’haqi in Shoubul-Imân narrate from Sayyidina Ali Al-Murtuda that the Messenger of Allah said: The Messenger of Allah said, “One who has not understood the rights of my Ahlul-Bayt and the Ansar, will certainly have one of these three dispositions: he will either be a Munafiq or a Waladuz-Zina (illegitimate child born of adultery) or a child of impure state (his mother conceived while in menstruation29). Imam Tabrani in his Awsat narrates from Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Omar that the Messenger of Allah stated: The Messenger of Allah said (before he departed from this world), “It is essential on you to Love and respect me and my Ahlul-Bayt.”30 Imam Tabrani in his Awsat narrates from Imam Hasan ibn Ali that the Messenger of Allah stated: The Messenger of Allah said, “It is essential on you to Love and respect me and my Ahlul-Bayt. Anyone who meets Allah in a state that he loves us then he will be sent to Jannah by our intercession. I take an oath in the b) Al-Mustadrak, Vol. 3, pg. 161. Imam Hakim states that this Hadith is Sahih according to Imam Muslim and Imam Zahbi also agrees with this. There are two versions of this Hadith. One has the word قتىوكخل and the other قىكمكخل . The former refers to Allah protecting their hearts to remain steadfast on Deen and the later means Allah will keep steadfast all those who stand up to protect Islam. I have read many printed and hand-written manuscripts. Imam Haytami has classified this Hadith as Da’eef (weak). 7 Name of Him Who controls my life! No person will benefit from his good deeds until such time he does not recognizes our rights (respect and love us).31 Imam Tabrani in his Awsat narrates from Sayyidina Jabir bin Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) once addressed us as follows: The Messenger of Allah addressed us and we heard him say, “O people! Whosoever has malice and hatred for us Ahlul-Bayt, Almighty Allah will raise him (in Qiyamah) as a Yahoodi (Jew). (This points out to the fact that he will not die with Iman).32 Iman is in Loving the Prophet (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) and his family The following Hadith has been acknowledged Sahih (sound) by Imam Ahmad ibn Hambal, Imam Tirmidi, Imam Nisa’i and Imam Hakim all narrate it on the authority of Sayyidina Muttalib bin Rabee that the Messenger of Allah said: I swear an Oath on Allah that Iman will not enter the heart of a Muslim until he does not love my family for the sake of Allah.33 Love Imam Day’lami narrates from Sayyidina Ali Al-Murtuda that the Messenger of Allah said: I will make special intercession (Shafa’at) for four people on the Day of Qiyamah. (a) one who respect my Ahlul-Bayt, (b) one who fulfils their needs, (c) one who runs their errands while they are in no position to do so (sick, etc.), (d) one who love and respect them sincerely (verbally and at heart).34 Imam Day’lami narrates from Sayyidina Abu-Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah said: Allah dislikes the following people: a) one who eats excessive food, b) one who is careless in the obedience of Allah, c) one who discards the Sunnah of his Nabi, d) one who intentionally does not fulfil his duties, e) one who has hate and disrespect for the family members of his Nabi, and f) one who harms his neighbours.35 Imam Khateeb in his Tareekh narrates from Sayyidina Ali Al-Murtuda that the Messenger of Allah said: My Shafa’at (intercession) is for those persons of my Ummah who love and respect my Family (Ahlul-Bayt).36 31 Refer: a) Al-Moh’jam al-Awsat, Vol. 3, pg. 203 b) Imam Qadi Ayad in Ash-Shifa Ash-Shareef, Vol. 2, pg. 48 states that the meaning of recognizing their rights refer to the relation and bond between the Beloved Nabi and his family. They will not be able to make a single move before being questioned about four things. Firstly, how did you spend your life-span? Secondly, how did you use the strength of your body? Thirdly, how did you spend your wealth? And fourthly, how much did you love us – Ahlul-Bayt?37 Imam Day’lami narrates from Sayyidina Ali Al-Murtuda that the Messenger of Allah said: Teach your children three things, Love for your Nabi, Love for his Ahlul-Bayt and recitation of the Quran. Verily, on the Day of Judgment the people with the knowledge of the Quran will be with the Prophets and Pious under the Shade of Allah when there will be no other shade besides Allah’s Shade.38 Imam Day’lami narrates from Sayyidina Ali Al-Murtuda that the Messenger of Allah said: Tomorrow in Qiyamah when crossing the bridge (Pul-Sirat), the most confident and relaxed will be those who loved and respected my Ahlul-Bayt and Sahaba the most.39 Imam Tirmidi has rated this Hadith as Hasan and so did Imam Tabrani and both narrate from Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Abbas that the Messenger of Allah stated: Love Allah because He feeds you with His Bounties and because of Allah’s love, Love me and because of my Love, Love my Ahlul-Bayt40. Imam Tabrani in his Awsat narrates from Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Ja’far that once the Messenger of Allah addressed us: We heard the Messenger of Allah say to us, “O children of Bani Hashim! I made Dua to Allah to make you wealthy and generous. I requested Allah to guide you on the right path and remove fear from your hearts and also fill your hearts and remove your hunger. I take an oath in the Name of Him, Who controls my life! None of you will be true believers until such time one does not love you (Ahlul-Bayt) because of my Love. Imam Ibn-Jareer in his Tafseer quotes the comments of Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Abbas on the Ayah, و لسوو يعطيك ربك فترضى : That one of the desires of the Messenger of Allah would be that no member of his Ahlul-Bayt will enter Hell.44 Imam Tabrani narrates from Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Umar who said that the Messenger of Allah said, The first people that I will make intercession in my Ummah will be of my Family (Ahlul-Bayt)45.)”46. Imam Day’lami narrates from Sayyidina Ali Al-Murtuda that he heard the Messenger of Allah say: The first people to meet me at the Fountain of Kauthar will be my Family (Ahlul-Bayt).47 Imam Day’lami narrates from Sayyidina Abu-Saeed al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah said: My Family and the Ansar are my wealth and part of my body (Family are part of body and Ansar are wealth), they are my happiness and my Amana (trust).
