Effects of Character
5. THE EFFECT OF THE PROPHET’S
(Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam)
CONDUCT AND CHARACTER
On one occasion, a person asked the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) to give him many goats. When the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) fulfilled his demand, he was so much impressed with the generosity of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) that he went to his clan and said to his people: “Embrace Islam because Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) gives plenty without a fear of his becoming a pauper.” 1
1 Sahih Muslim
2 Mishkaat
3 Sahih Muslim, Kitaabul Jihad
A Rabbi (Jewish priest) hardened on the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) in his demand for the repayment of the amount that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) had taken as a loan. He harassed the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) from Zuhr prayer till Fajr. The companions of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) rebuked him severely but the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) said: “Allah has not given me permission to be cruel to any Dhimmi.” At dawn the Jew embraced Islam and said: “I donate half of my amount in the way of Allah. I adopted harsh attitude towards you because I wanted to confirm the signs of the Last Prophet as mentioned in the Torah.” 2
Samamah Ibne-Athal was arrested and brought to the court of the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam). He released him unconditionally without even charging any ransom. Sayyiduna Samamah was so much impressed that he embraced Islam and his heart filled with love and devotion to the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam). 3
