4. THE EFFECT OF THE HOLY QURAAN

Sayyiduna Omar set out to eliminate the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) but his heart was filled with the light of Imaan when he heard a few verses of the Holy Quraan. Sayyiduna Abu Dhar Ghifari heard the miraculous effect of the Divine Word from his brother and called on Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) and embraced Islam. 1

Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz’oon heard the verse: “Lo! Allah enjoins justice and kindness, and giving to kinsfolk, and forbids lewdness and abomination and wickedness. He exhorts you in order that ye may take heed.” 2 He says: “That was the time when faith got deep rooted into my heart and I started loving Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam).” 3

Sayyiduna Jubair bin Mut’am heard these verses of the Quraan: “Or were they created out of naught? Or are they the creators? Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are sure of nothing. Or do they own the treasures of thy Lord? Or have they been given charge (thereof)?” 4. He says: “My heart started flying”. 5

Sayyiduna Tufayl bin Omar al-Dausi embraced Islam as soon as he heard the verses of the Holy Quraan recited by the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam). 6

During a journey to Taif, Sayyiduna Khalid al-Udwani heard the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) reciting the verse: “By the heaven and the Morning Star.” 7 He at once memorised the entire Sura and ultimately embraced Islam. 8 2 www.GardensOfSunnah.co.uk

Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah, Sayyiduna Abu Salmah, Sayyiduna Arqam bin Abi Arqam and Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz’oon visited the court of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) who invited them to Islam and recited the verses of the Holy Quraan. They were so much impressed by the oration that they embraced Islam. 9
