Surrender

30. TOTAL SURRENDER TO THE HOLY PROPHET (SALLALLHU ALAIHI WASSALLAM)

The Sahaba merged their individual entities with the personality of the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) and surrendered themselves totally to the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) and his offspring.

Sayyidah Fatima Bint Qays was a lady companion of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) with whom Sayyiduna Abdur Rahmaan Bin Awf wanted to marry. The Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) had proposed her for Sayyiduna Usamah Bin Zaid. Sayyidah Fatima had said to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam): “I have surrendered myself to you. You can give my hand to anybody you wish”. 1

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah As’ad Bin Zirarah Ansaari, before his death, had requested the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) to give the hands of his three daughters in marriage to anybody. The Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) gave the hand of his daughter Sayyidah Fari’ah in marriage to Nabit Bin Jaabir. 2

The Ansaar never married their widows to anyone without the permission of the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam). One day, the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) said to an Ansaari: “Give the hand of your daughter to me in marriage.” He was overjoyed, but the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) added: “I am asking her hand for Jalbib and not for myself”.

Sayyiduna Jalbib was a Companion of the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) who spoke to women in humorous way. The Sahaba generally did not like him for this habit. When the Ansaari heard Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam)’s words about his daughter, he said: “I will seek the consent of my 2 www.GardensOfSunnah.co.uk

wife.” When his wife heard the name of Sayyiduna Jalbib, she refused to give her daughter to him. But the daughter said: “The order of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) cannot be disobeyed. Give me to Jalbib. The Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) will not let me go waste.” 3
