Impact of Company

25. THE IMPACT OF THE PROPHET’S COMPANY

The Sahaba visited the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam)’s court to benefit themselves from his teachings.

Once Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra said: “O Allah’s Apostle! How come our hearts are softened when we are in your company and virtuous thoughts and the fear of the Hereafter overwhelm us? And when we depart from your court, and meet our family and smell our children, we lose that pious sensation.” The Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) said: “Had that sensation remained with you permanently, the Angels would have come to your homes regularly to see you”. 1

Every morning they used to come out of their houses and assembled in the outskirts of Madinatul Munawwara to welcome Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam). They used to wait till noon and then returned home.

One day, like any other day, they retreated after waiting for him till noon. A Jew saw the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) from a fortress and shouted: “O People of Arabia! Here comes your beloved one”. All the Sahaba rushed decorating themselves with their arms. The Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) arrived at Quba and stayed with the family of Banu Amr Bin Awf. The family of Banu Amr chanted in ecstasy the slogan of “Allah-o-Akbar” loudly. The Ansaar (the local inhabitants of Madinatul Munawwara) started visiting and greeting the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam). There were many Ansaar who had not so far seen the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) and could not recognize him by face. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr spread his sheet over the head of the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) to protect from the sunlight. The people of Madinatul Munawwara could have only a glimpse of the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam), for which they were longing for. 2 www.GardensOfSunnah.co.uk

When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) advanced towards the city, the crowd accompanied him in congregation. He halted at one place and called the Ansaar. The Ansaar came and greeted the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) and said: “Ride your camel, there is no danger for you and we all are at your service.” The Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) advanced under the protection of the Ansaar. The crowd stood in two rows all along the route from Quba to Madinatul Munawwara. The Ansaar families used to approach the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) and said: “Master, our homes, our wealth and our strength belongs to you. Accept it please”.

When the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) reached near Madinatul Munawwara, there was a pleasant upsurge among the inhabitants of Madinatul Munawwara. People observed him from the rooftops and shouted: “The Messenger of Allah arrives; the Apostle of Allah comes.” 2 Women were singing in ecstasy: “Full moon has risen from the crust of the valleys of Wada hills. We must thank our Lord till the praying people pray”.

When the she-camel of the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) halted at the door of Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansaari, the girls of the Banu Najjar tribe sang these couplets, playing the tambourine: “We are the maidens of Banu Najjar and what a best neighbour Muhammad is!” 3
