Fear

31. FEAR OF THE HOLY PROPHET

(SALLALLHU ALAIHI WASSALLAM)

The Sahaba were very much impressed by the dignity and greatness of the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam). They trembled in facing the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam).

Once, a companion of the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) performed prayer along with him. Two other companions, who were present in the Mosque, did not join them. When the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) called them and asked the reason, they trembled in fear. 1

A companion called on Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam). He was trembling while facing the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam). He said: “Don’t fear. I am the son of a woman who used to eat pieces dry bread.” 2

The Sahaba were deeply impressed by the awful personality of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam). On one ocassion, the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) was performing Asr or Zuhr Salaah and completed his Salaah after two Rakaah only. Many Sahaba came out of the mosque saying that two Rakaah have been withdrawn from the Zuhr/Asr prayers. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Omar were also present in the congregation but did not dare to ask the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) about the change in the mode of the prayer. Finally, Sayyiduna Dhul Yadain said: “Whether the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) missed two Rakaah or Allah has abrogated them?” The Sahaba made some gestures in support of Sayyiduna Dhul Yadain’s opinion that the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) forgot to perform the remaining two Rakaah. 3 2 www.GardensOfSunnah.co.uk

Sayyiduna Amr Bin Al-As, the Conqueror of Egypt, who was a senior companion of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam), says: “I can’t mention the details of the physical structure of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam), as I never dared to see him face to face.” 4
