Demise

29. MOURNING THE PROPHET’S DEMISE

The Sahaba could not even think of separation from the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam). The Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam)’s health deteriorated day by day and his condition worsened on Thursday. Whenever Sayyiduna Abdullah Bin Abbas remembered that day, he cried: “That Thursday, which was that Thursday when the condition of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) worsened?” When Sayyidah Fatima saw her father’s last moments, she cried: “Oh my father’s pain!” When he breathed his last, she cried profusely. When people returned after the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam)’s burial, she said to Sayyiduna Anas: “How did you like to put soil over the body of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) ?”

Sayyidah Ayesha says: “Nobody’s death pains me after the demise of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam).”

When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) breathed his last, the Sahaba rushed to his Mosque mourning the passing away of their beloved master. Sayyiduna Omar was very agitated and with a naked sword in his hand was pacing around saying: “I will behead him who says the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) is no more”. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr noticed his condition but did not talk to him. He straightway went to the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) who lay in rest, uncovered his face and kissed it crying profusely. Then he came out and requested the Sahaba to keep patience. 1
