CHAPTER TWENTY NINE

Business

1 See Volume One, Chapter Sixty-Three for this Sunnah

O Allah (The Exalted) bless our master Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) as many times as Your words.

Many authors including Moore state that to become a successful businessperson honesty is necessary and keeping promises so that people will trust you. Your business will increase and you will benefit with their custom.

A person went to study for an M.B.A and on his return was asked about businesses where he had studied. He thought and said, “Most businesses emphasise the fact that if one is not satisfied with a product then they are able to return it, if the product is faulty then a replacement will be given and one is spoken to in a friendly manner.”

This is exactly what the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) taught us. The Messenger (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) had become a successful merchant, because he was honest in his dealings and could be trusted. He never overpriced his goods nor weighed his goods incorrectly.

The Messenger (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) earned the reputation of being the most honest and just merchant of the city of Makkatul Mukarramah. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) earned the title of “Al-Ameen” (the Trustworthy) and “As-Saadiq” (The Truthful) from the people of Makkatul Mukarramah.

The Messenger (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) has said, “Whosoever accepts returned goods, Almighty Allah will wipe out (annul) his punishment.” The Messenger (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) is teaching us excellent salesmanship, Subhanallah! O Allah! Give us the ability to make your beloved Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) our model, Ameen.
