21. LOVE TOWARDS THE HOUSE OF THE PROPHET

The Sahaba showed great love towards the family of the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam). Once, Imam Baaqir called on Sayyiduna Jaabir Bin Abdullah to enquire about the Farewell Pilgrimage. Sayyiduna Jaabir Bin Abdullah warmly welcomed him, caressed his head, untied his upper and lower laces, massaged his chest and greeted him affectionately and the requested him to speak out the matter for which he had come over there. 1

On one ocassion, an Iraqi said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Omar: “What is verdict of the Sharee’ah about the blood of the mosquito if it stains a cloth?” He said: “See them, they assassinated the grandson of the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) and now are asking me about the blood of a mosquito.” 2

A few days after the demise of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr passed by a place and saw Sayyiduna Imam Hasan playing. He lifted him up and made him sit on his shoulder and recited a couplet: “My father be sacrificed for you. You resemble the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) and to Ali”. Sayyiduna Ali, who was present over there, laughed at this. 3

One day Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra met Sayyiduna Imam Hasan and said to him: “Open your belly where Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) had kissed as I also wish to kiss there.” He opened his belly and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra kissed it. 4

Once many Sahaba were sitting in the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam)’s Mosque when Sayyiduna Imam Husain arrived there and greeted them. Everyone answered his greetings except Sayyiduna Abdullah Bin Amr Bin Al-As. When the Sahaba silenced, he said: “May Allah bestow you his blessings”. Then addressing all of them said: “Should I tell you who is the dearest one to the dwellers of 2 www.GardensOfSunnah.co.uk

the Heavens from among the dwellers of the earth? This one who goes over there. He has not talked to me since the Battle of Siffin. His forgiveness is dearer to me than the brown camels”. 5

Sayyiduna Abul Tufail was a great supporter of Sayyiduna Ali. After the demise of Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyiduna Ameer Mua’wiyyah once asked him: “What is your condition in the sorrow of your friend Abul Hasan ?” He said: “Same as that of Sayyiduna Musa’s mother when he separated from her”. 6

When Sayyidah Fatima, the daughter of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam), asked Sayyiduna Abu Bakr to give her the inheritance of her father and mentioned her relationship with the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr delivered a speech and expressed his love towards the family of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) and said: “By Him in Whose hand is my life, I give due respect to the rights of the relationship with Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) than my personal relationship.” Sayyiduna Abu Bakr ordered his people to give due importance to those rights. 7

Once, Sayyiduna Abbas said to Sayyiduna Omar: “O Chief of the Believers! What would you do if the uncle of Sayyiduna Musa came to you after embracing Islam?” Sayyiduna Omar said: “I would have given him the best treatment.” Sayyiduna Abbas said: “I am the uncle of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam).” He said: “O Abul Fadhl! By Allah ! Your father is dearer to me than my own father because I know that he was dearer to the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) than my father was, and I prefer my love to the love of the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam).”

When Sayyiduna Abbas passed away, the Banu Hashim announced his demise separately and Sayyiduna Uthman announced his demise separately among the settlements of Ansaar. People gathered around 3 www.GardensOfSunnah.co.uk

in such a multitude that nobody could come near the coffin. They encircled Banu Hashim in such a manner that Sayyiduna Uthman had to take the help of the police to disperse them. 8

Whenever there was a drought in Arabia, Sayyiduna Omar invoked Allah on behalf of Sayyiduna Abbas and said: “O Allah ! Previously we used to bring our Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) as our intercessor and got rains. Now we bring the uncle of our Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) as our intercessor. Give us rains”. 9

Once, Sayyiduna Omar sent for Sayyidah Shifa, the daughter of Abdullah Al-Adawiyah. When she came, she saw that Sayyidah Aatikah, the daughter of Usayd, was already present over there. After sometime, Sayyiduna Omar gave one shawl each to them. But the shawl of Sayyidah Shifa was of inferior quality. She said: “I am senior to Aatikah in embracing Islam and also your cousin sister. You had called me especially for this purpose while Aatikah came over here by chance.” Sayyiduna Omar said: “I had kept this shawl exclusively for you but when Aatikah came here I had to keep in mind her relationship with the Holy Prophet (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam).” 10

Sayyiduna Hind Bin Abi Halah was Sayyidah Khadija’s son only because the Glorious Prophet of Islam (Sallallhu Alaihi Wassallam) had brought him up. When his son died of plague in Basra, his funeral procession was taken out in a very ordinary way. A lady saw the procession and cried: “Alas, he is Hind, the son of Hind, who was the son of the Prophet’s wife”. People heard this and left the funerals of their relatives and rushed to attend Hind’s funeral. 11

The tribe of Banu Zahra belonged to the Beloved Habbeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam)’s mother. That was the reason Sayyidah Ayesha showed great respect and affection towards that tribe. When she got 4 www.GardensOfSunnah.co.uk

annoyed with Sayyiduna Abdullah Bin Zubair, she sought the help of the elders of that tribe as the mediators. 12
