Chapter Sixteen

Sunnahs

The hadith I have used is by no means to go against the great Imams i.e. Imam Malik, Imam Shafi’i and Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal. There method of Salaah is also correct as it is according to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). The hadith quoted are to show that the Fatwas of Imam Abu Hanifa are according to the Sunnah as the Ghair Muqalids object to this. Note: The hadith numbers before the hadith indicate the different chains of narrations, hence, each chain will count as a separate hadith.

General

Anbasah ibn Abi Sufyan quoted Umm Habibah (RadhiAllaahu ‘anha) as saying ” Rasulullah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “A house will be built in Heaven for one who prays 12 Rak’aat in a day and evening as follows: 4 Rak’aat before and 2 after the Duhr Prayer, 2 after the Maghrib Prayer, 2 after the ‘Ishaa’ Prayer and 2 before the Fajr Prayer.” [Narrated by at-Tirmidhi under No. 380. He said: this is a sahih hadith.]

FAJAR

Aisha (RadhiAllaahu ‘anha) narrated that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “The two rakaats before dawn (fajr) prayer are better than the word and all that it contains.” [Sahih Muslim]

Aisha (RadhiAllaahu ‘anha) narrated that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) was never more regular and stricter in offering any Nawafil than the two rakaats (sunnah before) dawn (fajr) prayer. [Sahih AlBukhari and Muslim]

Sunnats Before Salaat al-Zuhr

Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) has said: “Whoever performs four rakaats before the fardh of zuhr and four rakaats after it, Allah Ta’aala will make him haraam upon the fire of Jahannam”. [Tirmidhi, Hadith no. 428]

Umm Habiba (RadhiAllaahu ‘anha) narrated that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever, observes the practice of offering four rakaats before Duhr prayer and four rakaats after it. Allah will shield him against the fire of hell.” [Abu Dawud and At-At-Tirmidhi]

Sunnats Before Salaat al-Asr

Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) has said: “May Allah show mercy upon that person who performs four rakaats before the fardh of asr”. [Tirmidhi, chapter on the narrations regarding the four rakaats, Hadith no. 430]

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said “May Allah have mercy on one who prays 4 raka’aat before the ‘Asr Prayer.” [Narrated by atTirmidhi no. 395 and he declared it a hassan and mentioned in the end that all the foregoing 4-Rakaat voluntary prayers are to be prayed two at a time according the hanbali and Shafi Ullima]

Sunnats of Salaat al-Maghrib

Hazrat Abu Ma’mar (radhiallahu anhu) has said that the Sahaabah (radhiallahu anhum) used to consider 4 rakaats after the Fardh of maghrib to be mustahab. [Qiyaamul-Layl of Marwazi pg.58] Abdullah bin Mughaffal (RadhiAllaahu ‘anhu) reported: Rasulullah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam), said, “Perform two Rak`ah before Maghrib prayer.” Rasulullah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam), repeated it twice; when repeating it for the third time he added: “He who may so wish.”

Anas (RadhiAllaahu ‘anhu) reported: I saw the Companions of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam), rushing to the pillars (of the mosque) to perform two Rak`ah prayers behind them before the Maghrib prayer. [Sahih Al-Bukhari].

4 Rakaats Before Salaat al-Isha

Hazrat Sa’eed Ibn Jubair (radhiallahu anhu) narrates that the Sahaabah (radhiallahu anhum) used to regard the performing of four rakaats before the fardh of isha as mustahab. [ibid. pg.58]

Imam Aazam Abu Hanifa took all ahadith into consideration and also the practises of the companions to decide that raising the hands to the ears is a Sunnah. My question is split into two parts: “Did the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) do as you say did all the time?” “Did the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) do this until he passed away?”

Hope you can prove these two questions and when doing so I do not want to hear the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) as you say etc. but I want Sahih hadith that clearly (no meanings or interpretations) states the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) as you say all the time and that he did this action until he passed away. Good luck!
